The decision to move up to lvl 6 is a large one for new players. I did so accidentally not relizing what would happen (losing access to Glitter on lvl 1 maps) so I had to adjust. At the time of this printing I am just 8 weeks old (9/17/14 pirate birth), but I am finding ways to thrive still.

One strategy I use is to rig my ship in such a way that I lose as close to nothing as possible and can be returned to service as quickly as possible.

    1. Sails- With a Sailmaker I run my best sails, but when I don't I use lvl 4 sails and it costs 699 gold to fix all 3. I'm not sure what the cost is to fix lvl 5 sails but I fear that it might cost prls so I elect not to use them in pvp waters. If the cost is in gold, I would change this up.
    2. I use azurite that speeds ship repair over hp to either ship or VD shield.
    3. I buy ammo often to prevent having a glut of gold to have taken, don't make yourself a valuable target and it will be you are sometimes seen as not worth it. It is typical for people to use P ammo when sinking smaller players, though there has been a few to try and use hallows more recently. At some point, I believe, they give up on this. I don't remember anyone actually doing it all with hallows.
    4. VD Priest lvl 2 is a must early pearl buy.
    5. When Event Items is open get lvl 4 Carpenter.
    6. Fast castles like Sternpost and Centerboard help a lot but ultimately you won't be out running anyone until they are both very advanced. Getting off a map quickly can help prevent being chain sunk.
    7. When some one is sinking you:
    a. Buy hallows
    b. Keep fetching glitter, especially around cadocs! Running into cadoc range will likely prevent you from being boarded, liberate glitter from dangerous areas and prevent BP hawks from gaining Battle Points as well as wasting whatever ammo they spent on you to that point.
    8. Use lvl 1 beams to boost ship hp and help hawks use an extra volley or 2 every time they sink you.
    9. Never use your P ammo just to spite them. If you can't sink em or are working as part of a group that can reasonably do so don't bother wasting yours. That is their job!

If this is well liked and helps move the game forward, I have other ideas I will share. I hope this makes your game experience better!

While you have the sailmaker, pearl sails will be repaired for free :)

As long as he has premium, right?

I also reccomend move to level 16 ASAP. In that map the farmers are not so noob-agressive.
